The Bulgarian Tourist Union (BTU) has developed a mobile application bringing together all tourist information, including maps, routes, navigation, information about events, and cultural and natural sites, BTU Chair Ventsislav Venev told BTA on Sunday. At the same time, the application allows users to receive certain discounts and privileges at BTU accommodation facilities and within the organisation’s partner network. Venev took part in the National Tourist Gathering marking the 131st anniversary of the beginning of organised tourism in Bulgaria at Cherni Vrah, the highest point of Vitosha Mountain.
Venev said that BTU decided to develop the Bulgaria 100 mobile application as part of the tasks it carries out, including maintaining mountain infrastructure, routes, trail markings and accommodation facilities such as mountain huts, shelters and tourist dormitories.
“This application brings together information on all these tourist resources. It provides information about accommodation facilities, interesting events and places worth visiting, including historical, natural and cultural sites. The application has a dedicated section for maps and navigation. The navigation can take you to any point you choose, and if you find yourself in an emergency somewhere, it can guide you to a familiar place, take you home or return you to the starting point from which you set out,” Venev said.
The application provides information on the weather forecast and interesting sights in the area where tourists are located.
Venev said that all events taking place in Bulgaria are included in the application, with users able to set a specific radius around their location to receive information about upcoming events of interest in the respective area. Events can also be arranged chronologically.
The application is free to download and use. At the same time, users who wish to do so can choose between two levels of paid subscription – the “blue tourist passport” and the “green tourist passport” – which offer various privileges and discounts both at facilities operated by BTU and within the organisation’s partner network.
