Becic: All national resources to be engaged in firefighting activities as long as needed

Podgorica, (MINA) – All available national resources will be engaged in firefighting efforts as long as necessary, said Deputy Prime Minister for Security, Defense, Crime Fighting and Internal Policy Aleksa Becic.

Becic, together with Minister of Internal Affairs Danilo Saranovic and General Director of the Rescue and Protection Directorate Miodrag Besovic, visited on Saturday active fire sites in the municipality of Herceg Novi, as well as the crisis headquarters in the Local Community of Bijela, where they assessed the situation and spoke with members of the services engaged in firefighting efforts.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) announced that Becic, Saranovic and Besovic also visited a group of firefighters from Trebinje, who came to Herceg Novi to help their colleagues in fighting fires.

Becic said that, despite the challenging conditions and the fact that the high temperature and changing winds can alter the situation from minute to minute, the response of all competent services in the previous four days was adequate.

“We currently have a situation under control, although significant challenges still exist. High temperatures and changing winds require maximum vigilance of the entire system”, said Becic.

He pointed out that all available state resources will be engaged as long as there is a need for it.

“In this fire season, when it comes to aviation capacity, Montenegro operates with six active aircraft, which is a significant improvement compared to previous years. We continue to coordinate and analyze the situation minute by minute, in order to adapt our response the situation on the ground”, said Becic.

Saranovic assessed that the situation on the ground is currently the most favorable since the outbreak of the fire, stating that it was the result of the coordinated efforts of all services.
