Romanian authors Elena Vladareanu and Dan Coman will be among the authors who will represent Romania at the 52nd edition of the Sofia International Book Fair, one of the longest-running publishing events in Eastern Europe and a cultural landmark of the region, according to a press release of the Ministry of Culture.

Romania will have its own stand at the important book event.

The programme of this year’s edition includes book launches, public readings, meetings with readers and a special evening of Romanian-Bulgarian poetry. Among the guests are Elena Vladareanu and Dan Coman, two of the representative authors of contemporary Romanian literature, along with Georgi Gospodinov, the most important Bulgarian author of the moment, laureate of the prestigious International Booker Prize (2023), as well as poets Georgi Gavrilov and Maria Ghetova, the Ministry of Culture informs in a post on Facebook.

The events are moderated and translated by Lora Nenkovska and Vanina Bojikova, among the most active promoters of Romanian literature in Bulgaria.

This year’s participation highlights translations of Romanian literature into Bulgarian and the Romanian-Bulgarian literary dialogue, reflecting the increased interest of Bulgarian publishers, translators and readers in contemporary Romanian literature.

Romania’s presence at the Sofia International Book Fair reflects the commitment of the Ministry of Culture to strengthening cultural relations in the region, promoting Romanian authors and translations in the European publishing space, the same source mentions.
