Almost 400 cyclists to run in Alba Carolina Bike Race on routes from four to 70kms

Almost 400 cyclists have signed up for the Alba Carolina Bike Race, a cross country mountain biking competition that will take place on Saturday on routes of between four and 70 kilometrEs of various degrees of difficulty, from Alba Iulia and neighbouring towns.

According to organisers ALBA BICICLIM Association, the Alba Carolina Bike Race competition has this year been included among the events supported by the Romanian Cycling Federation.

The race is open to both professional and amateur cyclists.

The competition will take place on five routes, of 4, 13, 27, 38 and 70 kilometres, of various degrees of difficulty. The first two routes, of 4 and 13 kilometres, are non-competitive.

According to organisers , the non-competitive nature of the races involving children is based on specialist psychology studies showing that the healthy mental development of children is given by the exercise of compassion, empathy, trust and mutual support, while competitiveness goes against these concepts.

“We consider that everyone is a winner by participating and by adopting a sporty, healthy lifestyle, that’s why everyone will be awarded at the event,” ALBA BICICLIM Association said.

The routes were designed to cover all categories of participants.

Public traffic will be restricted on several streets in Alba Iulia on Saturday, between 09:00hrs and 19:00hrs.

“The purpose of this event is to promote the city of Alba Iulia and its surroundings, and also to encourage an active lifestyle through sports and outdoor activities. Last but not least, we want to raise awareness and community involvement in actions to green the areas where the contest is held and more. By organising this competition, now in its third edition, we want to attract as partners the local and county administration as well as private partners that will support our project,” added ALBA BICICLIM Association.
