All airports except Rijeka’s report increases in passenger numbers

ZAGREB, 11 Oct (Hina) – A total of 2.2 million passengers passed through Croatia’s airports in August 2024, up by 12.7% compared to August 2023, with increases in the number of passengers reported by all airports except for Rijeka’s, which continued the negative trend from the previous months.

Figures from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS) show that in the first eight months airports saw a 16.4% increase in the number of passengers, to 9.4 million.

In August, there were 12.3% more aircraft landings/takeoffs (20,700), and in the first eight months, these operations rose 12.4% to close to 99,000 year-on-year.

August saw a 40.4% rise in cargo handled by Croatia’s airports (to 932 tonnes), and in the first eight months, the amount of cargo handled by the airports increased 20.7% to slightly more than 7,250 tonnes.

Split Airport with most passengers in August, Zagreb Airport with most passengers in first eight months.

This August, Split Airport was the busiest with 723,700 passengers using its services, 7% more on the year. In the first eight months, it handled 2.6 million passengers, ranking second, after Zagreb.

Dubrovnik Airport followed with a 19.5% rise to 529,000 passengers in August 2024. In the first eight months, Dubrovnik Airport saw an increase of 22% in the number of passengers, to more than 2.1 million.

The airport in the capital city of Zagreb was third in August, witВ 437,000 passengers (+14.5% on the year). In the first eight months, it saw 2.8 million passengers, 16.3% more year on year.

Rijeka Airport was the only airport to see a drop in the number of passengers in August, of 6.5%, to 37,800 passengers. In the first eight months it served 112,000 passengers, a drop of 5% compared to the same period of 2023.

Croatia’s airports registered the busiest international traffic with airports in Germany, the UK and France.
