The 73rd International Cycling Tour of Bulgaria will start in Primorsko on August 29, with organizers from the Bulgarian Cycling Federation (BCF) hoping to generate public engagement similar to that surrounding the Giro d’Italia, which began in Bulgaria in 2026.

BCF said 17 teams from 11 countries will compete, including UCI Continental teams and the Serbian national team. The race will cover 552.8 km over five stages: Primorsko-Burgas, Burgas-Sliven, Sliven-Pavel Banya, Pavel Banya-Troyan via the Beklemeto climb, and a final circuit starting and finishing in Troyan. The first three stages are expected to favour sprinters, while the final two should suit climbers and could decide the overall winner.

BCF officials said the Giro’s international exposure had drawn greater attention to Bulgarian cycling and tourism, but added that the Tour of Bulgaria needed more sponsors and stronger State support to grow. The race is being staged on a limited budget, with high policing and medical-cover costs contributing to the shorter stages. Municipalities along the route are providing accommodation, meals and prize money, while the Youth and Sports Ministry is covering key organizational costs.
