Skopje, 23 June 2026 (MIA) — The 65th Struga Poetry Evenings festival will be held under the theme “Where Poetry Lives” in Struga from June 24 to 29.
Usually taking place during the last week of August, the poetry festival has been moved to June this year and it will be a day longer compared to previous years, organizers said.
This year’s starting date aligns with the 165th anniversary of the Miladinov Brothers’ “Miscellany,” the collection of folk songs, legends, traditions, riddles and proverbs published on June 24, 1861, in Samobor, Croatia.
According to organizers, 12 books will be published under the SPE imprint this year, including a selection of poems by 2026 Golden Wreath winner Anneke Brassinga from the Netherlands; “New Famous Phrases” by British poet Daniel Hinds, who won this year’s UNESCO-sponsored Bridges of Struga Award; and Julijana Velichkovska’s “Reißverschluss,” the winner of last year’s Miladinovci Brothers Award.
The festival will also publish an anthology of contemporary Macedonian poetry edited by Ivan Dzheparoski; a book of interviews by Dime Ratajkoski with past winners of the Golden Wreath; and selected works by Spanish poet Luis García Montero, Scottish poet Pàdraig MacAoidh, German poet Michael Krüger and Chinese poet Xi Chuan, translated into Macedonian.
Around 70 local and international poets, critics, translators and cultural workers are expected to attend, including writers from the Balkans, Italy, the Netherlands and Australia.
