World press praise Galatasaray’s vital win against Manchester United

Galatasaray’s vital 3-2 UEFA Champions League Group A win against Manchester United on Tuesday was the main topic of the world sports press.

The Lions’ Mauro Icardi and the Red Devils’ Rasmus Hojlund’s performances were praised, while United goalie Andre Onana’s poor performance was criticized.

British daily The Guardian wrote the headline “What stage are we at in Manchester United’s endless theatre of pain?” after the defeat.

The newspaper stated it was ‘another alarming night for Andre Onana’ but added that ‘the best part, maybe the only really good part for United’ was Danish forward Hojlund.

The Mail highlighted Man United’s UCL woes, now suffered back-to-back losses in Group A, saying the English giants have now a huge task to qualify for the knockout phase.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand accused the British team of ‘defending like school boys’ on TNT Sports.

“Manchester United’s woeful season lurched from one damaging loss to another as Galatasaray took advantage of some calamitous defending to clinch a comeback Champions League win at Old Trafford,” wrote the British public service broadcaster, BBC, on their website.

Famous football website Goal.com rated Onana’s performance as ‘awful’ and accused him of ruining Hojlund’s dream brace performance.

Associated Press reminded United’s former manager Ron Atkinson of being fired in the 1986-87 season after getting six losses in 10 games, which current manager Erik Ten Hag equaled.

Sports channel Eurosport stated ‘the pressure heaped on Manchester United and manager Erik ten Hag’ after Galatasaray’s ‘astonishing’ win at Old Trafford.
