ZAGREB, 30 Jan (Hina) – Under the Decision on Direct Price Control Measures in Retail Trade, which is expected to be on the agenda at the government session on Friday, 70 products are subject to price restrictions, 40 of which are newly added.

The Minister of Economy, Ante Šušnjar, presented the new products covered by the government’s decision at a meeting on Thursday. The decision is expected to be adopted on Friday.

Furthermore, they include pancetta, cooked ham, tea-time  spread, Tyrolean sausage, Carniolan sausage, frozen hake, canned fish in vegetable oil, sour cream, fresh cow’s cheese, butter and pork fat.

Also included are loose oranges, pitted prunes, loose red (yellow) onions, loose kale, loose leeks, frozen peas and green beans, loose cabbage, sliced beetroot, walnut kernels and fruit jam.

Rounding off the list are non-carbonated orange nectar, ground coffee, apple cider vinegar, urological tea, powdered detergent for machine washing, liquid detergent for hand dishwashing and solid soap.

Since September 2023, the list has also included sunflower oil, milk, sugar, flour, minced pork, whole chicken, yoghurt, semi-hard Gouda cheese, long-grain white rice, spaghetti, fresh eggs (medium size), boneless pork neck, chicken/turkey frankfurters, hamburger bacon, loose carrots, loose beans, sieved tomatoes, packaged apples (2 kg), milk chocolate bar (80–100 g), fruit syrup, toothpaste (125 ml), shower gel, shampoo, three-ply toilet paper, standard sanitary pads, baby nappies, potatoes, and bone-in beef neck.

Minister Šušnjar also announced a new Exceptional Price Control Measures Act, which will introduce an obligation to offer price-controlled items. Retailers will be required to provide at least one type of product from each prescribed category under the Decision.

At the entrance to retail premises or another prominent location within the store, a poster must be clearly displayed containing a visual identification mark and a list of selected items with their respective prices.

Retailers will also be required to have separate shelves for price-controlled items. Sales outlets larger than 400 square metres must allocate a designated section of the store for these items unless refrigeration is required.
