Podgorica, (MINA) – The Western Balkans must seize the opportunity offered by the EU, said European Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi, adding that by the end of 2027 there will be no more excuses for the region not being ready to join this community.

Speaking at the Western Balkans and EU leaders Summit in Kotor, Varhelyi said that there is a high level of motivation to conduct everything as planned to harmonize the region with the EU as much as possible.

He remarked that the next European Commission should be a commission of enlargement, which by the end of its mandate will see new members joining the Union.

Varhelyi expressed belief that, with everything they have done together during this EC mandate, including the Growth Plan, the Western Balkans will be part of that expansion.

Varhelyi emphasized that the Western Balakan should seize the opportunity offered by the EU, but also the period before joining the Union.
