Ukrainian president thanks Croatia for its assistance

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković spoke by phone on Friday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who thanked him for the assistance Croatia has been providing to his country.

Zelensky and Plenković  “discussed the current security situation in Ukraine and peace initiatives,” the Croatian prime minister posted on platform X.

“We are committed to achieving peace, but a just peace that will ensure sovereignty of Ukraine and reintegration of the occupied territories. Our common position is that the views of Ukraine and the European Union should be respected and represented in the negotiations,” he added.

The Croatian prime minister announced that on Monday, 24 February, he will participate via video link in a summit organised by Zelensky to mark the third anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

“President Zelensky expressed appreciation for the comprehensive assistance to the Ukrainian people so far, which Croatia willВ continue to provide,” Plenković  concluded in his post.

Earlier, the prime minister said at a government session that “everyone wants peace and an end to the suffering” in Ukraine, but that such peace must be “principled and in line with the fundamental principles of international law.” Croatia represents this position due to its experience, its positionВ and its size, and opposes any scenarios that would reward the aggressor, namely Russia, the prime minister emphasised.
