Tourism needs a clear vision and competitive products

Chairman of the Tourism and Hospitality Association Committee at the Chamber of Commerce (PKCG) has stated that good and effective and management of tourism destinations is a prerequisite for successful tourist seasons.

According to him, this requires a clear vision, competitive tourism products, and strengthened cooperation between the private and public sectors.

Speaking at a Committee meeting held Monday in the Budva City Hall, Jovovic stated that tourism was a strategically important economic sector for Montenegro, adding however that numerous chronic problems had hindered its full development for decades.

“Structural weaknesses such as low occupancy rate for accommodation capacity, an unfavourable market position in Western European markets, outdated legislation, and a lack of efficient destination management demand broad social and professional consensus,” Jovovic said.

According to a press release from the PKCG, he said, that tourist arrivals in collective and individual accommodations rose by 5.5 percent from January to May, while overnight stays declined by 7.2 percent compared to the same period last year, referring to the latest official data from Monstat.
