The story about the challenges of Kosovo’s athletes during the occupation

Over 200,000 photographs that testify the difficulties faced by Kosovar sports during the 90s have been preserved and recently published in an exhibition opened by the journalist, Gani Kosumi.

In an interview for KosovaPress, he talks about the challenges that Kosovar athletes went through during those years, who, despite the many persecutions by the occupier, did not stop their sports activities.

While talking about the severe conditions in which the sports activities of that time took place, Kosumi recalls how in many cases the sports competitions were interrupted by the Serbian occupier.

Kosumi reveals that he started shooting these historically important photographs after securing a camera, which was sent to him by his brother who was working in England at that time, whereas the expenses were covered by his salary.

With such photographs and materials that can be collected, the journalist requests that a monograph be created on the sport of Kosovo, for this difficult period.

Leaving behind such a difficult period, Kosumi considers that the achievements of Kosovar sports today are very great, with sports such as judo, karate, boxing and others, which have brought European and world medals to our country.
