The first cruise ship of the year, the Viking Saturn carrying 930 passengers, anchored at Piraeus port on Tuesday. The cruise ship is 228 metres long and has nine decks.
The administration of the Piraeus Port Authority (OLP) has organised a special event with the exchange of honorary plaques, as well as welcome treats offered to the passengers passing through the Cruise Station.
The Viking company operates in the port of Piraeus throughout the year. It is expected to arrive at the port 41 times with 10 of its ships, compared to 28 arrivals in 2024 with 7 ships.
The port of Piraeus shows significant and ever-increasing performance in the cruise sector. According to the provisional data, in 2024 there were new records in the number of cruise ship passengers in total, with more than 1.7 million served against 1.5 million in 2023, as well as in the number of homeporting passengers, which exceeded 1 million, up from 800,000 in 2023.
The number of cruise ships served in the year 2024 was 810 compared to 760 in 2023, of which over 600 were homeporting cruise ships.
The CEO of OLP SA, Su Xudong, expressed his great satisfaction with the significant and continuous increase of cruises in Piraeus, stressing that the position of the port and the country combined with the investments and upgrading of infrastructure and services by OLP SA are bringing the desired results.
