The Municipality of Prishtina in cooperation with the public enterprise “Prishtina Parking” have decided to change the infrastructure of the capital with the “Smart City” project.
Part of this project is the installation of parking sensors, “smart” poles, which will provide information about traffic, the placement of bicycles and stations.
The head of ‘Prishtina Parking’, Sokol Havolli, tells KosovaPress that with this, environmental pollutants and traffic will be reduced, as well as new alternatives for transportation will be offered.
“There are 10 points for placing bicycles in the capital, they are located in such a way that they enable the circulation of people from one point to another, strategically located, which would facilitate the transportation of citizens through this alternative method… Objectives of the mayor (Përparim) Rama and the institutions in general in the capital is the reduction of traffic and environmental pollutants, the improvement of air quality, and one of the methods, in addition to that part of setting digital issues, is also to offer new alternatives for transportation in capital”, said Havolli.
Havolli says that with the implementation of sensors and digital signs, it will be easier for citizens to find free parking spaces.
“About 500 sensors and 12 smart poles have been installed, which have continuous communication, which provide information and continuous monitoring signals for ‘Prishtina Parking’… With the implementation of these sensors and digital information signs, citizens will not need to go around the neighborhood to find a parking space, because this information will be at the entrance of the neighborhood, the main street of the capital and through digital devices, therefore this automatically eliminates the need for citizens to look for a parking space, because the information will be displayed on smart boards, which will be an automatic process”, he said.
Havolli says that in the future they will precisely implement the new regulation for resident citizens.
“In the future, of course, we intend to implement as precisely as possible the issue of the new regulation, which also creates an extraordinary advantage for resident citizens… Part of the regulation is also the establishment of different segments that it means that when we divide the segments in the neighborhood, at certain times, especially in the afternoon, the parking lot inside the neighborhood will be only for resident citizens and will not be allowed for visitors”, he said.
Otherwise, the use of bicycles by citizens is expected to start from next week.
