ZAGREB, 28 July (Hina) – Eighty-three percent of Croatians drink wine, they prefer Croatian wines and they appreciate red and white wines almost equally, shows a survey conducted by the Ja Trgovac magazine and the Hendal agency.
The survey, conducted in June on a representative sample of respondents aged above 16, shows that compared to the last survey, conducted in 2020, the number of people drinking wine has dropped by two percentage points.
One in five Croatians (20%) drinks wine at least once a week, which is 1pp down from the previous survey, while the number of those who drink wine at least once a month increased by 2pp to 22%.
Nineteen percent of the respondents said they drink wine only on special occasions (-2pp) and 17% said they drink wine rarely (+2pp).
As for the type of wine, 46% of the respondents prefer white wine (+2pp) while 42% percent prefer red wine (-6pp). Some of the people who drink red wine have switched to rosé, which is now the wine of preference for 11% of the respondents (+4pp).
Four in five respondents, or 80%, prefer Croatian over imported wines, which is 2pp more than four years ago, while the percentage of people who prefer foreign wines has dropped from 8% to 7%. 13% of the respondents are undecided, 2pp down from 2020.
Dalmatia is still the most popular wine region among Croatians who drink wine, and 31% of the respondents prefer wines from that region. It is followed by Slavonia (22%), and Istria (16%). Seven percent of the respondents prefer wines from the regions of Zagorje and Baranja, and 2% prefer wines from the region of Moslavina. 11% of the respondents said they have no regional preferences.
