Spajic: Montenegro to finish its work by year-end, EU to act next

Podgorica, (MINA) – By the end of next year, Montenegro will complete its part of the work in the EU accession process while maintaining the quality of reforms, Prime Minister Milojko Spajic said, adding that the enlargement policy is expected to act.

Speaking at the EU Enlargement Forum in Brussels om Tuesday, he said Montenegro is not seeking shortcuts or excuses on its path to European integration.

“We will close all negotiation chapters by the end of next year, and we are not looking for shortcuts or excuses along the way. The quality of the reforms remains unquestionable”, Spajic pointed out.

He said that the enlargement policy must keep the doors of the EU open.

“Not only for Montenegro, but also for the other candidate countries. Its success is particularly important for the EU”, Spajic said.

He stressed that the political will that makes the process realistic is crucial in achieving that goal.

“We have seen it before in the example of certain member states. That is why the doors of the EU must remain wide open to all candidate countries”, Spajic said.

Alongside Spajic, Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos, Defense Commissioner Andrius Kubilius, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kalas and Prime Minister of Moldova Alexandru Munteanu also spoke on the panel.
