Spajic: EU accession to ease inflationary pressures in Montenegro

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Prime Minister Milojko Spajic said that Montenegro’s accession to the European Union (EU) will lead to a reduction in inflationary pressures and price stabilization.

“The sooner we join the EU, the sooner we will have price stabilization, because we will be part of the single market, making imports and exports to and from Montenegro much easier,” Spajic said at the Parliament, responding to a question from the head of the parliamentary group of the United Reform Action (URA) Milos Konatar, about what measures the Government has taken to prevent the rise in prices of goods and services.

Head of the Social Democrats and European Alliance parliamentary group Boris Mugosa also asked what measures the Government had taken in the past six months to curb price increases.

Spajic said Montenegro is fighting vigorously for EU membership, that is, for access to its single market, and that significant steps have already been made toward that goal.

“All other measures are relatively temporary, and we will continue to implement them, but the only sustainable solution is to increase competition, which comes from the EU single market of 450 million people,” Spajic said.
