Romania’s National UNESCO Commission launches membership anniversary programme

Bucharest, March 30 /Agerpres/ – Romania’s National Commission for UNESCO is launching a series of events under an anniversary programme called “UNESCO 70 Romania – celebrating the past by building the future together”  marking 70 years of Romania’s UNECO membership.

To celebrate this anniversary, the Romanian National Commission for UNESCO will organise, between March and December, a series of events in UNESCO’s areas of competence – education, culture, natural sciences, socio-human sciences, communication and information. The programme aims to highlight both the projects and initiatives associated with UNESCO designations in Romania, as well as the country’s contribution to the organisation’s activity over the last seven decades.

The inaugural event will include the opening of the exhibition “Stone Made Objects”, which invites the public to discover the geological and anthropological stories of objects from over thirty UNESCO international geoparks in Europe.

“It is a celebration of the creativity of people who have managed to transform geological material into practices or industries, with economic, social and cultural impact – locally, regionally or internationally,” according to the commission.
