The Ministry of Economy, Digitalisation, Entrepreneurship and Tourism (MEDAT) is participating, January 21-25, 2026, in the International Tourism Fair FITUR in Madrid, one of the most important exhibitions of its kind worldwide, held at IFEMA – Feria de Madrid, Spain.
According to a press release from the ministry, participation in FITUR Madrid 2026 reflects the need to ensure constant, coherent and visible promotion of Romanian as a tourist destination on foreign markets, especially priority ones. Presence at such international events is essential for consolidating Romania’s image as a competitive, attractive and diverse tourist destination, capable of meeting the demands of international tourists. In this context, Romania’s stand will showcase the diversity and authenticity of the national tourism offer, highlighting Romania’s natural and cultural heritage.
‘Romania’s participation in FITUR Madrid is part of a broader effort to constantly and coherently promote ourselves on foreign markets. This is an important market for Romanian tourism and an opportunity to present the diversity and authenticity of Romania as a destination for international tourists. We have done everything necessary to ensure our participation in this unmissable fair for Romania,’ said Irineu Darau, Minister of Economy, Digitalisation, Entrepreneurship and Tourism, in a press release.
To ensure the continuity of Romania’s promotion at major international events in the field of tourism, MEDAT is participating in FITUR Madrid 2026 with a national stand, even in an economic context that requires careful management of resources, the press release also states. This presence allows Romania to maintain its visibility on an important external market and support efforts to attract a growing number of foreign tourists.
The Spanish market is a priority for Romanian tourism, with Spain consistently ranking among the top ten countries sending tourists to Romania. The increase in the number of Spanish tourists in recent years, combined with high air accessibility and interest in cultural circuits, nature tourism, rural tourism and city breaks make Romania a destination with significant development potential in this market.
Participation in FITUR Madrid offers Romania an important platform for international visibility, in a context that brings together thousands of professionals from the global tourism industry, representatives of authorities, the media and the general public.
