Romanian high schoolers win five medals, two mentions at International Linguistics Olympiad
Romanian high schoolers have won a gold medal, three silver, a bronze medal and two honourable mentions at the International Linguistics Olympiad (IOL) in Brazil, Education Minister Ligia Deca said on Wednesday.
Medals were awarded to Luiza-Teodora Mihai of the Iasi National Collegiate High School of Iasi – gold medal; Matei Chirila, Nicolae Balcescu High School of Cluj-Napoca – silver medal; Mihaela Anghel, Alexandru Ghica High School of Alexandria – silver medal; Karina-Adriana Stancescu Carol I National Collegiate High School of Craiova – silver medal; Elena Pavolaia, Sfantul Sava National Collegiate High School of Bucharest – bronze medal, Deca said in a social media post.
Honourable mentions went to Ioana Steliana Barbu of the Spiru Haret National Collegiate High School of Tulcea, and Sergiu Manea of the Carmen Sylva National Pedagogical Collegiate High School of Timisoara.
Ioana Stanoiu of the International High School of Informatics in Bucharest, was also part of the team.
Romania’s team was prepared by the Iorgu Iordan-Al. Rosett Institute of Linguistics of the Romanian Academy and the University of Bucharest and was accompanied by Roxana Preda, assistant professor at the University of Bucharest, Paul Helmer, associate professor at the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, and Mihai Bratu, student at the Technical University of Delft and medallist at three of the previous IOL editions.
