Bucharest, March 4 /Agerpres/ – Romania’s tourism offering is promoted, between March 4 and 6, at the most important tourism fair in the world: the Berlin International Tourism Exchange (ITB Berlin), the Ministry of Economy, Digital Transformation, Entrepreneurship and Tourism (MEDAT) announced on Tuesday.
‘Germany is the largest market for Romanian tourism. It is the country that brings us the most tourists, but also the most important trading partner of Romania. Last year, we witnessed a 10% increase in the number of German tourists to over 240,000 visitors. By participating in ITB Berlin, the largest business platform in the tourism industry, our goal is clear: to strengthen this trend and attract even more foreign visitors to Romania. Concrete actions, supported by solid partnerships between the public and private sectors, are the key to success in increasing the visibility and attractiveness of our country,’ said Minister of Economy, Digital Transformation, Entrepreneurship and Tourism Bogdan Ivan.
MEDAT and 36 travel agencies, hoteliers, tourist associations, destination management organisations and local governments participate in this exhibition event to establish partnerships that contribute to increasing the number of foreign tourists in Romania.
Romania promotes at ITB Berlin a diversified tourist offering that includes cultural circuits, active and adventure tourism, stays on the seaside and in the Danube Delta, rural tourism and city breaks. Among the destinations promoted are Oradea, Bucharest, Timisoara, Mamaia – Constanta, Craiova, as well as counties and regions such as: Cluj, Sibiu, Prahova, Neamt and Bucovina. Another attraction brought to the attention of the public is the George Enescu Festival, one of the most important classical music events globally.
Romania’s stand is designed as a Business to Business (B2B) interaction hub facilitating the development of partnerships. For three days, visitors will discover the places promoted by Charlie Ottley in his videos, owned by MEDAT, which capture the spectacular landscapes and cultural heritage of Romania and will be able to access materials promoting the destinations in English and German, including the tourist pamphlet of Romania and a general tourist map. In addition, tastings of traditional products and Romanian wines will be organised at the stand, as well as egg painting demonstrations, held by a craftsman from Bucovina.
Germany is one of the most competitive tourist markets in the world, being the country with the most active travellers in Europe and home to some of the largest international tour operators. In order to increase Romania’s visibility, MEDAT carried out an extensive outdoor promotion campaign in Germany last year. At the European Football Championship, over 600 taxis from Hamburg, Berlin, Munich and Frankfurt had stickers with spectacular images from Romania.
The previous edition of ITB Berlin brought together 5,600 exhibitors from 190 countries and more than 100,000 visitors.
