PM Mitsotakis, Crown Prince Khaled meet in Athens to bolster Greece-UAE ties

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met on Thursday with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, at the Maximos Mansion.

Government sources reported that during the meeting, the excellent relations between the two countries and the mutual desire for further deepening the strategic partnership between Greece and the United Arab Emirates were confirmed, particularly in the fields of investment and investment cooperation in the wider region.

The same sources noted that they also discussed strengthening the positive momentum of UAE investments in Greece, as the target of € 4 billion in direct investments into the Greek economy, set in 2022 through the Strategic Investment Cooperation Agreement between the Hellenic Development Bank, the Hellenic Development Bank of Investments, and the UAE sovereign wealth fund ADQ, has been surpassed.

They added that views were also exchanged on prospects for boosting investments and cooperation in tourism, energy, artificial intelligence and its applications, infrastructure, and defence.

“Your Highness, we are very pleased to welcome you to Greece and I thank you for taking the time to visit us. You arrive at a time of great regional turmoil, but I believe it is precisely at such moments that we must strengthen strategic partnerships that have yielded tangible results,” Mitsotakis said at the start of the meeting.

“The relationship between Greece and the United Arab Emirates is one that I personally value greatly. And I am grateful for the opportunity to build on your visit to strengthen it further.
Very important business agreements will be signed between companies from our countries. However, it is also an opportunity to take stock of developments in the region and discuss how our two countries can work together as pillars of stability towards a more peaceful future, that will ultimately benefit not only our countries, but the region as a whole.

I would also like to congratulate you on presenting an exceptionally qualified candidate for the position of United Nations Secretary General. As you know, Greece currently holds the presidency of the Security Council for the month of October.

We will try to make the most of this opportunity, to ensure the acceleration of all procedures, aiming for the most beneficial outcome, which will also be acceptable to the General Assembly.
Therefore, I would like to ask you to convey my warmest greetings to the President. I look forward to reciprocating this visit and visiting you very soon. Once again, welcome to Greece,” the prime minister added.
