Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was in attendance at the enthronement ceremony of the new Archbishop of Sinai, Farran and Raitho and Hegoumen of the Holy Monastery of St Catherine on Mount Sinai, Symeon.

The enthronement was also attended by the Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos III, along with representatives of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa, and the Orthodox Churches of Greece and Cyprus.

The Greek Premier emphasised that his presence at the Holy Monastery of Saint Catherine on Mount Sinai demonstrates that “ Greece will continue to be present at every step you take and will support you at every level.” Referring to recent developments at the  Monastery of Saint Catherine on Mount Sinai, he noted that “ the Holy Sinai Brotherhood has shown patience, spiritual wisdom, and unwavering faith. It thus emerged unscathed from the ordeal, renewing the spirit of unity.”

Mitsotakis further stressed that “ the efforts of the Greek and Egyptian states have already paved the way for the Monastery’s spiritual and worship character to be preserved in perpetuity, as well as its rights and the protection of the monks who serve it.”

According to government sources, following the enthronement ceremony, Mitsotakis held meetings with the Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos, Archbishop Symeon, and US Deputy Secretary of State Michael Rigas.
