Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Tuesday that he will be a Romanian president who will be on the field, who will intervene if the rules are broken, and he believes that the country’s president should not be of the same political colour as the prime minister.
He was asked on Gandul.ro whether he would be a playing president if he is elected by Romanians.
“I will be a president who will be on the field, who will intervene if the rules are broken. I will be a president who will stand by the prime minister regardless of which party he belongs to, because Romania needs dialog, both internally and externally, in the coming years. It is a period in which Romania will have to reform in order to accede to the OECD [Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development], it is the period when there are the biggest investments in the public system. Next year Romania will reach 10% of the GDP investments,” Ciolacu said.
He added that in the coming period the president should not have all the power and should not be of the same political colour as the prime minister.
“Power must be shared, particularly in the next years Romania will go through. (…) If during the election campaign I have to make a decision that will lead me to lose the office of president, but will be good for Romania, I will not have the slightest hesitation (to make it – editor’s note),” Ciolacu said.
