PKCG does not support boycott

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The Chamber of Commerce (PKCG) does not support any form of boycott against its members, regardless of the sector in which they operate, and considers it unjustified, as it directly affects the business sector, which is not responsible for the challenges attempted to be resolved in this way.

The PKCG stated in a press release that Montenegro’s heavy reliance on import and susceptibility to the influence of global and regional economic trends must be taken into account as specificities of its economy.

“Exports account for only 14 percent of the import value, which further complicates the situation and increases the vulnerability of our economy. Therefore, when comparing our market to those of countries in the region and beyond, the overall economic environment must be taken into account,” the press release states.

According to the PKCG, the wholesale and retail sector is one of the most significant sectors of the Montenegrin economy, as it has the largest individual share in gross value added at 13.7 percent in 2023 and employs more than one-third of all employees in the private sector.

“Therefore, arbitrary assessments of the performance of companies in this sector should not be made. In fact, all companies submit financial statements to the Tax Administration, and it is easy to determine from them that the gross margin in Montenegro is lower than in Slovenia, Serbia, and Croatia,” PKCG stated.
