Minister of National Economy and Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis, in a doorstep statement upon arriving at the Ecofin meeting in Brussels, referred to the topics he would discuss with his European counterparts, while highlighting Greece’s support for proposals allowing tariffs on small parcels from third countries.

Specifically, Pierrakakis stated:

“ In these two days of the Eurogroup and Ecofin meetings we have been discussing a full scope of issues – from the introduction of the digital euro and the regulation of stable coins, to energy taxation and customs reform.

Specifically with regard to customs, I would like to underline that Greece fully supports the Commission’s proposal to remove the 150-euro customs relief threshold and thus allow for the potential introduction of tariffs on low-value parcels arriving from third countries within the borders of the EU.

We believe that this policy is extremely important for the transparency of online trade, for the protection of European consumers, and for the creation of a level playing field for European businesses.

I would also like to stress that Greece fully supports France’s position to introduce this measure at an even earlier timetable, from early 2026. This is an extremely important for EU customs, it is extremely important for the EU as a whole.”
