PARIS2024 OLYMPICS Didn’t come with the thought that we were the best(rower Andrei Cornea)

AGERPRES special correspondent, Adrian Tone, reports: Rower Andrei Cornea said on Thursday, after winning the gold medal in the men’s double sculls event at the Paris Olympic Games, together with Marian Enache, that he and his colleague did not come up with the thought that they were the best.

“During the competition there were some signs that gave us confidence, lane one, the fact that they put us where we won at the European Championships. But we didn’t come up with the thought that we were the best. We did the race that we did wrong in the semifinals. We expected the result to be the best, our work could not be in vain. We want to go to the World Championships, to get a gold medal there too, to make the complete record. But as I said before, we will enjoy today like children, then we will enjoy a well-deserved break,” he said.

The 24-year-old Cornea said that he cannot describe in words the feeling he experienced at the end of the race.

“Until I go home, the medal will be around my neck. One thing that gave me a lot of confidence was the fact that (national crews’ coach, ed. n.) Antonio Colamonici told me before the race: ‘I know that you will win, but don’t think about it, go and make your race’. The trust he had in us was a form of certainty that we would succeed and win, to make our most wonderful race. We had good races before, but due to its final, this is the most beautiful,” said Andrei Cornea.

Romanian rowers Andrei Cornea and Marian Enache won the gold medals in the men’s double sculls event on Thursday at the Paris Olympic Games, after a race they led almost entirely.

So far, Romania has four medals at the 2024 Olympic Games, two gold, one won by swimmer David Popovici in the 200-meter freestyle, one won by Andrei Cornea and Marian Enache in the men’s double sculls, one silver, won by Ancuta Bodnar and Simona Radis in the women’s double sculls, and one bronze, won by David Popovici in the 100-meter freestyle.
