According to data from the General Directorate of Industrial Property (GDIP), a total of 2,344 international applications were filed in 2025 to extend trademark protection to Albania.
In 2024, there were 2,677 international applications, while in 2023, the number reached 2,954.
In 2022, international applications for trademark registration under the Madrid Agreement totaled 2,017.
Compared with 2022, the number of applications at the end of 2025 was around 16% higher, reflecting sustained interest in international trademark protection in the Albanian market.
According to GDIP data, trademark protection plays a key role in safeguarding businesses and their commercial activities, particularly amid expanding markets and growing competition.
Registering a trademark allows owners to protect their brand name and commercial identity from unauthorized use, while the new legal framework aims to strengthen mechanisms for safeguarding industrial property rights.
In this regard, trademark owners can seek legal remedies in cases of infringement, including interim measures, the removal from circulation, or the seizure of goods suspected of violating the rights associated with a registered trademark.
The increase in international applications compared with previous years indicates that the Albanian market continues to be viewed as a destination where international companies seek to protect their commercial identity.
Meanwhile, in 2025, more than 1,700 domestic businesses obtained trademark registration certificates. Compared with the previous year, registrations increased by 67.2%, reaching their highest level in years.
There was also an increase in applications for trademark renewals, which reached 765 in 2025, up from 535 in 2022.
The figures point to greater awareness among businesses of the importance of protecting their trademarks against imitation, unauthorized use, and counterfeiting, while safeguarding their investment and identity in the market.
