Of Croatia’s active population, which in July 2023 numbered 1.78 million, 1.68 million were employed, which is 1.6% more than in June 2023 and 1.5% more than in July 2022, show data from the national statistical office (DZS).
In the first seven months of this year, the number of persons in employment grew 1.1% compared to 2022.
DZS data show that most of the workers, or 232,600, worked in the manufacturing industry, which is 0.7% more than in June but 0.4% down from July 2022.
The retail sector employed 217,800 people, up 1.1% from the previous month and 1.3% more than in July 2022.
The education sector followed with 124,800 employees, 0.5% down from June but around 1% up from 2022.
The accommodation and food service sector employed 10.3% more people in July as against June, which is the largest month-on-month increase.В
Year-on-year the number of employees grew the most in ICT, by 5.4%. In the first seven months of 2023, that sector saw the largest increase in the number of employees, of 10.3%, as well.
The number of jobseekers in July stood at slightly more than 103,700, which is 5.1% more than in June this year but 5.3% down from July 2022. In the first seven months of 2023, the number of jobseekers was 8.8% down.
The registered unemployment rate in July was 5.8%.
