New technologies pose risks to the centrality of human beings, President Sergio Mattarella said Monday adding his voice to the recent chorus of warnings about the perils of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Mattarela also wished Pope Leo XIV a happy 71st birthday “We are living through a complex and turbulent historical moment.
The threat—if not the actual use—of force is once again prevailing, while disregard for rules, growing inequalities, and the manifold dire consequences of climate change are causing suffering for so many innocent people,” said the Italian head of State.
“At the same time, new technologies open up unprecedented possibilities but also risk jeopardizing the centrality of the human being, widening existing social and economic disparities.
“Faced with such dilemmas and uncertainties, women and men of good will across the globe look with hope to Your Holiness’s lofty Magisterium, which continues to urge peoples and nations toward responsibility and the acceptance of human limits and fragility—’without regarding them as an error to be corrected,’ as the encyclical Magnifica Humanitas admonishes,” the birthday message concluded.
