National metrology system developed

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Over the past 20 years, Montenegro has built a national metrology system, developed its own professional and laboratory capacities and become part of the European and international metrology community, the Bureau of Metrology said.

Bureau of Metrology Director Gordana Bajic said that trust was at the heart of metrology and the value on which the national measurement system had been built over the past two decades.

“Whenever we measure something, we expect the result to be accurate and reliable. We usually do not even think about the system that makes this possible, and perhaps that is the best sign that it is functioning well,” Bajic said on the occasion the Bureau’s 20th anniversary.

Recalling that the tradition of regulating measurement in Montenegro dates back to 1888, Bajic said that a new stage of development and the establishment of a national metrology institution began following the restoration of Montenegro’s independence in 2006.

“Over two decades, we have established national measurement standards and laboratories, built professional capacities and become part of the European and international measurement system. Today, internationally recognised measurements make it easier for Montenegrin companies to demonstrate the quality of their products and operate on European and international markets,” Bajic said.

To mark the anniversary, President of Montenegro Jakov Milatovic presented letters of appreciation to individuals and institutions that had made a particular contribution to the development of the Bureau and metrology in Montenegro over the past two decades.

Representatives of the Government, the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro, national metrology institutions from the region, quality infrastructure institutions, the academic and business communities, partners, as well as current and former Bureau employees attended the ceremony held at the Science and Technology Park of Montenegro in Podgorica.
