National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina is suspending services until further notice

SARAJEVO, August 26 (FENA) – The Council of Employees of the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina warned today that the employees of that institution will stop providing services to the public as of today until further notice.

The President of the Council, Aldin Huskić, stated at the press conference that the reason for this decision was the lack of a concrete policy on the part of the authorities to resolve their situation, which is why they no longer have the conditions for functioning and work.

He added that the Government of the Sarajevo Canton allocated 300,000 KM from its budget for NUBBiH through the Ministry of Culture and Sports as well as 100,000 KM through the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Youth, which is significant for the employees to begin with.

Huskić stated that these intervention funds will enable them to pay off part of the debts owed to the workers, but unfortunately they are not sufficient for the long-term survival of the institution.

He announced that the workers will continue to work on finding additional solutions to ensure stability and the continuation of all activities.

Huskić emphasized that their demands remain the same, namely the appointment of a management structure and a defined and stable legal and financial status of the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
