The meeting between Montenegrin President Jakov Milatovic and the Spanish King Felipe VI, elevated the political dialogue between the two countries to the highest level, the President’s office announced.

It is said to be a historic meeting and the first-ever bilateral meeting between the Spanish sovereign and a Montenegrin official.

“I had a very meaningful meeting with Spanish King Felipe VI and today we opened a new chapter in the relations between Montenegro and Spain”, Milatovic said.

According to the press release, he thanked King Felipe for Spain’s strong support of Montenegro’s European path and informed him of Montenegro’s goal to become the next EU member state by 2028.

As Milatovic pointed out, the meeting discussed the further improvement of cooperation between Montenegro and Spain.

“With this meeting, we have raised the political dialogue to the highest level”, said Milatovic.

According to the press release, Milatovic invited the King of Spain to visit Montenegro, with the expectation that the visit will take place in the near future.
