It’s not for centre right, but for those who win elections to have numbers to govern.

Premier Giorgia Meloni said Tuesday that the government’s new proposed electoral law awarding an even bigger winner’s bonus than at present will boost government stability in Italy.
She denied opposition claims that her government, which is set to become Italy’s longest lasting in September, has framed the law in order to help its cause in the next general election, currently scheduled for October next year.
“It would be a shame to go back,” Meloni said at the “Il giorno de La Verità” initiative, interviewed by the newspaper’s editor Maurizio Belpietro, explaining why the centre right wants to change the electoral law.
“Today we are seen as an anchor of stability in Europe; yesterday we were an unstable Italy in a more stable Europe.
“I hope for more stability in Europe, but I certainly don’t want Italy to go back to being unstable.
“I don’t think it’s a law that serves the center-right, but whoever wins the elections will have the numbers to govern.
“So may the best man win, but the electoral law reform is for Italy; it would be devastating to go back.” A bill on the electoral law is moving slowly through parliament.
