President Sergio Mattarella was discharged from Rome’s Santo Spirito hospital on Thursday and returned to the Quirinal Palace.
The 83-year-old head of State had surgery at the hospital on Tuesday to insert a pacemaker.
His office stressed that the surgery was planned and was no cause for concern.
Tuesday’s news that the president had been admitted to hospital was met with get-well-soon wishes from politicians of all colours, including Premier Giorgia Meloni.
“My warmest wishes to President Mattarella for a speedy and full recovery,” Meloni said on social media.
“Italy awaits you soon, with the same strength and dedication of always”.
