Kurti: Serbia is interfering in Kosovo elections, even more severely than Russia in Europe
Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti has stated that Serbia’s interference in the electoral process in Kosovo is more severe than Russia’s in Europe.
This statement from Kurti comes after the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, promised 400 jobs for Serbs in Kosovo.
In today’s session of the acting government, Kurti said that attempts to influence voters through financial incentives, conditioning and blackmail of social benefits, and statements by Serbian state officials that only the Serbian List protects Serbia in Kosovo — as recently stated by the former Serbian Prime Minister and also by President Vučić himself — are repeated methods of Serbia’s interference in Kosovo’s electoral process.
Furthermore, Kurti said that interference in the elections of other states constitutes a form of undermining democracy and sovereignty.
Kurti added that the EU Election Observation Mission in the 9 February parliamentary elections had documented Serbia’s interference, and according to him, the reason Serbia has not changed its behavior is that it has faced no consequences from the EU for this issue.
He called on the EU to condemn Serbia’s interference in Kosovo’s democratic elections and to sanction it for actions that violate the principles of good neighborliness and the basic Brussels agreement.
A day earlier, Vučić, through electoral manipulation, involved himself in the local elections in Kosovo to be held on 12 October, in which the Serbian List — an extension of his regime — is running.
He claimed that within 10 days, they would open “400 jobs.”
