Kosovo one of the strongest democracies in Western Balkans, Prime Minister says

Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti said that Kosovo has become one of the strongest democracies in the Western Balkans, speaking on the second day of the Civil Society Forum (CSF 2026), part of the regional initiative of the Berlin Process under the motto “Proof, Not Promises.”

Kurti expressed his gratitude for hosting the forum, adding that the country’s regional cooperation is based on good European neighborly relations.

“We are happy to be hosting this year’s Civil Society and Think Tank Forum as part of the Berlin Process, which we have organized together with the Open Society Foundations – Western Balkans. This is the first time this forum is being held in Kosovo… For us, regional cooperation is also based on good European neighborly relations, which are possible only when neighbors respect these values. Often, the blockages in our region stem precisely from this: a mismatch of values. Nevertheless, we choose to lead by example, and this starts with democracy. At a time when more and more countries are sliding toward autocracy, Kosovo has become one of the strongest democracies in the Western Balkans and beyond, strengthening the rule of law, fighting corruption and protecting fundamental freedoms,” Kurti said.

Meanwhile, OSF Western Balkans Director Andi Dobrushi said that a reform cannot remain unfinished in people’s lives and that, according to him, their task is to show who is responsible for completing it.

On the other hand, the Chief Negotiator with the European Union, Predrag Zenovic, said that Montenegro’s “progress” seeks to demonstrate that the European perspective can become a reality in the region.

The forum will conclude tomorrow, October 7.
