Infrastructure seen as a precondition for the development of tourism

Zabljak, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Chairman of the Board of the Tourism and Hospitality Association of the Chamber of Commerce (PKCG) Ranko Jovovic has said that there can be no tourism development without adequate infrastructure.

According to him, the tourism industry should be consulted when implementing the infrastructure development projects.

“We are aware that without adequate infrastructure, there can be no tourism development. Therefore, it is necessary to plan transport infrastructure projects that will significantly improve Montenegro’s connectivity with the region and Europe. However, during the implementation of these projects, the tourism industry should be consulted to align the schedule with the tourist season,” Jovovic said at the Board meeting held in Zabljak.

He said that, according to forecasts, the upcoming season would likely be a record one, adding that the tourism industry was ready, but that factors such as the informal economy, noise near accommodation facilities, lack of skilled labour, utility and transport infrastructure, construction works during the season, and delays at border crossings would affect its success.

Jovovic emphasized that Montenegro was not solely a summer beach destination but also had tourism products for active vacationers in the winter months, which required connecting the coast with the hinterland and extending the season in order to create a comprehensive offering for tourists.
