Former President of Kosovo Hashim Thaçi has arrived on Thursday in Kosovo to visit his father who is facing health problems.

EULEX’s increased forces are stationed in front of the Internal Medicine Clinic at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (UCCK).

Hashim Thaçi is facing an extended trial at the Special Court in The Hague.

During the stay of former president Hashim Thaçi at the Internal Medicine Clinic of the University Clinical Center of Kosovo, many citizens gathered near the facility, KosovaPress reports.

Men and women of various ages have been there since 11:00 AM when Thaçi arrived to visit his sick father at the UCCK.

After several rejected requests, the Special Court approved Hashim Thaçi’s request to meet his sick father, according to KosovaPress.

In earlier rejections, the Special Court had considered that Thaçi’s father’s condition “was not that serious.”

The Special Court in The Hague confirmed to KosovaPress that they allowed Thaçi’s visit to Kosovo “for humanitarian reasons” so that he could visit his father who is in the hospital.

“Yes, I can confirm. For compelling humanitarian reasons, the Judicial Panel and the Pre-Trial Judge have instructed the Secretary to manage a detention visit to Kosovo for Hashim Thaçi to be with his father. The accused remains in detention by the Specialized Chambers,” said a court spokesperson. Thaçi has been in detention since November 2020.
