Greece’s first AI-optimised supercomputer to be installed at the University of Western Macedonia

The University of Western Macedonia (UOWM) in Kozani will host Greece’s first AI- supercomputer, which will be installed at the Green Data Centre.The supercomputer, currently under construction, has a budget of 30 million euros. It will form part of the European High
Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU), a collaborative European initiative aimed at advancing cutting-edge computing infrastructure.

The supercomputer will play a significant role in developing a comprehensive technological ecosystem connecting supercomputers, data centres, and AI factories. This initiative will strength Greece’s position within Europe’s digital innovation landscape.In a statement, the University of Western Macedonia emphasised its commitment to connecting education with innovation and green development.

Students and researchers will gain access to state-of-the-art technologies and will have the opportunity to develop advanced AI applications in collaboration with universities and institutions both in Greece and abroad. Local businesses will also gain access to high-performance computing resources previously available only in international centres.
