Gevgelija to be 2025 City of Culture

Gevgelija, 7 February 2025 (MIA) – Gevgelija will be the country’s City of Culture in 2025, Minister of Culture and Tourism Zoran Ljutkov told a press conference Thursday.

Ljutkov said this recognition was both an honor and obligation, noting that this was the second time Gevgelija has held the title, after being designated City of Culture in 2011.

“This is confirmation that Gevgelija, with its rich cultural tradition, will once again be at the heart of cultural activities in Macedonia. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism is behind you and backs the events with Mden 3 million, so that we can create a cultural program that will rejuvenate cultural life in the city,” Ljutkov said.

The Minister said Gevgelija attracted numerous tourists thanks to its location and natural landscapes, “and now”, he said, “as City of Culture, it will offer new experiences and opportunities to enjoy.”

According to Gevgelija Mayor Andon Saramandov, the recognition was an added motive for the city to attract more tourists but also to develop the economy and smaller businesses.

The Gevgelija City of Culture 2025 programming consists of 142 proposed projects.
