Fier Memorial Hospital performs first permanent pacemaker surgery

TIRANA, November 6 /ATSH/ – For the first time, a permanent pacemaker has been successfully implanted at Memorial Regional Hospital in Fier. The life-saving procedure was performed on a patient suffering from severe heart rhythm disorders.

Minister of Health and Social Welfare Klodiana Spahiu noted in a social media post that this procedure marks a significant step toward expanding specialized cardiac services at the hospital.

According to Spahiu, the introduction of this service aims to enable patients with cardiac problems to receive treatment closer to home, thereby increasing access to specialized healthcare.

The Memorial Regional Hospital in Fier—an investment from Turkey—provides tertiary-level care for the entire southern region of the country. With a capacity of 150 beds, the hospital is the first in Albania to implement a model of hospital autonomy.

The hospital offers services in emergency medicine, general surgery, neurosurgery, cardiovascular surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, infectious diseases, pulmonology, as well as orthopedics and traumatology. /e.i/r.e/a.f/p.s./
