End of waiting in queues: Kosovo launches digital wallet — documents and signatures on your phone.
The Ministry of Digitalization and Public Administration has launched the National Electronic Identity and Digital Wallet Platform.
The launch was described as an important step in the country’s digital transformation, enabling citizens and businesses to use electronic identification and electronically sign documents.
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that digitalization is changing the way citizens access public services, bringing institutions closer to them without the need for physical presence.
According to him, the launch of the National Electronic Identity and Digital Wallet Platform will allow citizens to save time, avoid unnecessary travel and complete administrative procedures from wherever they are, without having to print documents.
Kurti described the platform, together with the “iSign” electronic signature application, as an important step in Kosovo’s digital transformation.
Kurti: The Republic of Kosovo is taking an important step in its digital transformation
“From going to institutions to accessing services that are available anywhere and at any time, digitalization essentially makes it possible for institutions to come to the citizen rather than the other way around. When we talk about digitalization, we think about the time citizens can save, the journeys they will no longer have to make, the work they will be able to complete wherever they are, and the documents they will no longer need to print. Today, with the launch of the National Electronic Identity and Digital Wallet Platform and the ‘iSign’ electronic signature application, the Republic of Kosovo is taking an important step in its digital transformation,” Kurti said.
The European Union Ambassador to Kosovo, Dirk Schuebel, said that the EU has invested €2.3 million in the platform.
Schuebel: The launch of this platform was supported with €2.3 million from the European Union
“I am pleased to say that this has been made possible with €2.3 million in support from the European Union. This investment should be seen as part of a broader partnership between the EU and Kosovo, as the European Union is Kosovo’s largest partner and provider of support, helping the country with modernization and European integration. Thanks to this partnership, Kosovo’s citizens can now have a secure digital identity on their phones,” he said.
The minister of the department, Lulëzon Jagxhiu, said that an important step was being taken in the country’s digital transformation.
Jagxhiu: We are launching one of the most important pillars of the state’s digital transformation
“In our everyday lives, we communicate, make payments and carry out many of our activities through our phones. However, when we need to prove our identity or sign a document, we often still have to appear in person or obtain paper documents. Today, we are taking an important step so that these actions can also be carried out digitally. We are launching one of the most important pillars of our state’s digital transformation. Electronic identity is one of the foundations of trust in digital services and transactions,” he said. /KosovaPress
