Maritime Affairs & Insular Policy Deputy Minister Stefanos Gikas will attend the inauguration of the ‘Aegean Regatta 2024’ event at the island of Kalymnos on Sunday.
Gikas, who was invited by the Regatta’s organizing committee, will also declare the start of the race on Monday (August 19), in the presence of Secretary General of Maritime Affairs & Insular Policy Manolis Koutoulakis, who is also chair of the organizing committee.
During his visit to the island Gikas will visit the island’s Port Authority, while he will also meet separately with Kalymnos Mayor Ioannis Mastrokoukos and representatives of agencies on the island.
In statements to the press, Gikas said that for the government, the prime minister, and the shipping minister, the extroversion and promotion of the islands is a priority and the Aegean Regatta 2024 contributes to this goal. “With its excellent organization and its high-level participation, the races are considered an institution in Greek and international sailing,” he stressed.
The 24th International Sailing Race ‘Aegean Regatta 2024′” will take place on August 19-24, and will involve besides Kalymnos the islands of Nisyros, Tilos, Chalki, and Rhodes. The race is organized by the General Secretariat with the Hellenic Sailing Union’s Open Sea Committee. Other co-organizers include the Region of the North Aegean, the Municipalities of Kalymnos, Nisyros, Tilos, Chalkis, and Rhodes, as well as several sailing clubs and other organizations in Mytilini, Chios, Samos, and Rhodes.
