President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides urged for an all-inclusive, Syrian-led orderly political transition, noting that his government is very closely following the evolving situation in Syria.
In a post on X, President Christodoulides said that “we are following the evolving situation in Syria very closely & with necessary caution”.
At the same time, he underlined that “the unity, territorial integrity & sovereignty of Syria must be respected” and an “all-inclusive, Syrian-led orderly political transition, in line with UNSCR 2254 is now more pressing than ever”.
President Christodoulides said that the “international Humanitarian Law must be respected” while “peace & security for all Syrians must be ensured including minority groups”.
He also noted that “Syria’s rich cultural heritage must also be respected & preserved” and that “stability in Syria will also facilitate dignified conditions for the safe returns of Syrian refugees”, noting that “developments on the issue are also crucial to EU’s security”.
