Cyprus continues to rank first in the EU in terms of bathing water quality for third consecutive year.
The Ministry of Environment said in a press release that the official announcement of the final results for the quality of bathing waters in the European Union was made today by the European Commission.
According to this year’s European Commission Report, Cyprus, for the reference year 2024, fully complied with the strictest specifications of the European Directive on the Management of Bathing Water Quality, fully fulfilling the obligations.
During the 2024 bathing season, Cyprus achieved a compliance rate of 99.2%, with 122 out of 123 sampling points being classified as “excellent quality”. Only one point has not yet been classified, due to a limited number of samples, it adds.
“This impressive performance ranks Cyprus in 1st place among EU Member States, for the third consecutive year, in bathing water quality. Bulgaria follows with 97.9% and Greece with 97%,” the Ministry adds.
It stresses that “the excellent results strengthen Cyprus’ image as a destination with clean, safe and quality beaches”.
Cyprus, it concludes, continues to demonstrate in practice its commitment to protecting its natural wealth, while ensuring the quality of life of its citizens and visitors.
