ZAGREB, 1 April (Hina) – Croatian theatres attracted 1,923,449 visitors in 2025, staging more than 13,600 performances at home and abroad, with a 25% rise in works performed and a 35% increase in premieres year on year, according to official statistics.

Data from the National Bureau of Statistics show that 187 theatres. 152 professional and 35 amateur, staged 2,579 works, 60% of them by domestic authors. A total of 661 premieres were performed, 55% of which were domestic works.

Professional theatres for general audiences staged 5% fewer performances but recorded a 2% increase in attendance compared with 2024.

Children’s theatres saw audiences rise by 23% despite a 24% drop in the number of performances, attributed to a 10% increase in the number of titles on offer.

Amateur theatres staged 8% fewer works but 34% more performances, drawing 4% more visitors than a year earlier.

Positive trends were also recorded in the music sector, with 1,403 concerts by orchestras and ensembles and a sharp rise in attendance to 426,291, up 53% year on year.

In 2025, there were 19 active choirs: one professional and 18 amateur.

Folk dance and song ensembles, numbering 68, staged 1,512 events, including 78 abroad, attracting 466,450 visitors.

A total of 417 people were employed in orchestras and ensembles, 97% of them in large symphony orchestras.
