Croatian govt to provide additional €1m in humanitarian aid to Gaza civilians

ZAGREB,  28 Aug (Hina) – Croatia will provide an additional €1 million in emergency humanitarian aid to Gaza civilians, who are suffering from famine andВ the aid will be delivered through the World Food Programme (WFP), the leading humanitarian organisation in the fight against hunger and food insecurity worldwide.

The decision was made by the Croatian government at its session on Thursday, and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs was tasked with its implementation.

Minister Gordan Grlić Radman highlighted that since the outbreak of the conflict in Gaza, Croatia has already sent €2.75 million in emergency humanitarian aid to the civilian population, focusing on key sectors such as healthcare, food, drinking water, hygiene, education, and protection.

The government made the decision in light of the worsening humanitarian situation and the official confirmation of famine in Gaza, based on core humanitarian principles, the minister stressed. The global reference framework for analysing food and nutrition crisesВ – the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) – which is used by UN agencies and other international humanitarian organisations, officially confirmed the presence of famine in Gaza for the first time in its report published on 22 August.
