The Cyprus Football Association celebrated on Tuesday, at a special event held in Limassol, its 90th anniversary, in the presence of UEFA President Alexander Ceferin.
The leadership of CFA referred to a “tribute” to the Cypriot football and welcomed the presidents and the representatives of the thirty Football Federations from across Europe, who offered commemorative presents to the President of CFA Giorgos Koumas. FIFA was represented at the event by Elkhan Mammadov, Director of the European Federations.
According to CFA, House Speaker Annita Demetriou, Minister of Justice Marios Hartsiotis, Minister of the Interior Konstantinos Ioannou, leaders and representatives of the political parties, Chief of Police Themistos Arnaoutis, President of the Cyprus Sports Organization Yiannis Ioannou, President of Cyprus Olympic Committee Giorgos Chrysostomou and Presidents and representatives of Cyprus Football Clubs, were also present at the Gala Dinner of the event.
In his speech, CFA President Giorgos Koumas noted that the presence of all these officials is a great honoυr for him personally, as well as for the leadership of the Association and shows something even more important, that Cyprus Football and the Association are deeply appreciated. “I assure you that we will not let you down”, he said and thanked Alexander Ceferin, whose presence on the event constitutes a personal honour for him.
In a brief statement to the media, the UEFA President expressed his pleasure for his presence in Cyprus for the 90th anniversary of CFA. “You are in love with football, like the rest of Europe,” he said and added that “although your population does not exceed one million people and you do not have the same resources as other big countries, you have good teams.”
